Environmental Management System - EMS (ISO 14001:2004):

ISO 14001 (EMS) is an internationally accepted Standard that specifies the actual requirements for establishing and operating an environmental management system to deal with those environmental aspects and impacts which the organization has control over and on which it can be expected to have an influence. Business allover the world seek certification against ISO 14001 to harvest various benefits including but not limited to:

• Establishing and/or Improving the methods of managing environmental aspects and impacts of the business processes
• Improving corporate image among regulators, customers, and the public, in addition to world-wide recognition of the entity's achievements
• Gaining a work a safer environment via avoiding hazards facing customers, together with improving the employees' moral
• Enhancing competitive advantages and access to new markets

If the ISO 14001 EMS is properly implemented, the team involved will become a resource center instead of a cost center. They will work on projects that will save the company money at the same time as reducing the company’s impact on the environment.

Some example projects that companies have worked on through this system include, reducing compressed air costs, reduced lighting costs and reduced heating costs. These projects also reduce the consumption of natural resources, which the companies negative impact on the environment.

Additional project include adding recycling programs, reducing waste to landfills, and better process control techniques & equipment that reduces scrap and rework.
